Formerly known as the Probation Service Christian Fellowship, CIP was
originally founded in 1954. We have recently undergone a rejuvenation,
bringing a new name and a renewed sense of purpose in serving the
probation service and its staff.
Christians in Probation seeks to help staff to think through issues
around faith, criminal justice and the work place. To this end we
support a national network of office-based prayer groups, enabling
Christian staff to meet regularly for mutual support and prayer. Weekly
emails give a criminal justice related prayer topic to unite members in
prayer. ‘CIP e-bites’ is a monthly email for members to share prayer
needs or encouragements and to give ideas of what other Christians are
doing in the workplace. We encourage staff to sit on equalities
consultation panels and other such forums. We publish a bi-annual
newsletter and hold an Annual Conference. Christians in Probation is a
registered charity (number 1059037) and is run by an executive committee
that meets quarterly.
Are you coming to the CIP Annual conference ‘Faith in Practice’ 13-15
November 09?
A weekend for Christians of reflection, time in prayer and praise, and
relaxation with Christian colleagues.
Revd Tim Bryan, Co-ordinating Chaplain at HMP Wandsworth, will lead
sessions on:
·
Can you maintain a Christian identity in a secular work place?
·
How do we manage personal faith in work with offenders and colleagues
and should we ever share it?
·
Can faith be a catalyst for change in offenders and how do we work with
it?
·
How do we balance public protection with restorative justice?
